A restaurant in Niagara has achieved the prestigious honor of receiving a second Michelin star, making it one of only two establishments in Canada to hold this accolade. Restaurant Pearl Morissette, located in Jordan Station, Lincoln, Ontario, has joined Tanière in Quebec City as the country’s only two Michelin-starred restaurants. While Canada has 34 one-starred restaurants and none with three stars, Toronto’s Sushi Masaki Saito briefly held a second star in 2022 before it was rescinded in the latest Michelin review.
Eric Robertson, co-owner and chef of Restaurant Pearl Morissette, expressed excitement about the recognition of Canadian ingredient-focused restaurants like theirs. The Michelin guide, which recently announced the star for Pearl Morissette, praised the restaurant as a “powerhouse,” highlighting its tasting menu and wine pairings.
Michelin awards up to three stars to restaurants based on criteria that include the quality of ingredients, cooking techniques, chef’s culinary style, flavor harmony, and consistency. Pearl Morissette, which operates within a winery of the same name, exclusively utilizes locally sourced seasonal ingredients from Niagara farms and lakes, supplementing with in-house cultivation when necessary.
Robertson emphasized the importance of using local ingredients, stating that “proximity is the best ingredient.” The restaurant’s commitment to showcasing its sourcing practices is evident through its floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of the vegetable farm, greenhouse, vineyard, apiary, and pasture where cattle and chicken are raised.
Guests are encouraged to learn about the region’s farming practices and support local markets. The restaurant aims to inspire a deeper appreciation for the diverse and delicious offerings of Ontario and Canada. In a post on Instagram, Pearl Morissette expressed gratitude to its team, growers, harvesters, and guests for their support.
Having received its first Michelin star last year and topping Canada’s Best 100 Restaurants List for 2025, Restaurant Pearl Morissette continues to showcase its French-inspired cuisine in a unique setting within a black barn surrounded by a lush farm and flower garden. Robertson, a Brantford, Ontario native with international culinary experience, partnered with Toronto-born chef Daniel Hadida to establish the restaurant in 2015, which will soon celebrate its eighth year of operation in November.
