Jets standout forward Kyle Connor has secured his future in Winnipeg by signing a lucrative contract extension. The team officially announced on Wednesday that Connor has agreed to a substantial eight-year deal worth $96 million, equating to an average annual value of $12 million USD. This new agreement will come into effect next season following the expiration of his current contract.
This contract marks a historic milestone for the Jets organization, surpassing the previous record deals signed by forward Mark Scheifele and goaltender Connor Hellebuyck two years ago. Those agreements, each spanning seven years, carried an average yearly value of $8.5 million USD and went into effect last season.
At 28 years old, Kyle Connor, the Jets’ 17th overall pick in the 2015 NHL draft, has solidified his position as one of the top goal scorers in the league. His impressive performance last season, where he tallied 97 points leading the team and ranking seventh league-wide, showcased his offensive prowess. Additionally, Connor excelled in the postseason, leading the Jets in points and assists while also earning a spot on the NHL first all-star team.
Since making his NHL debut in the 2017-18 season, Connor has consistently shown his scoring ability, reaching the 30-goal mark in seven seasons and surpassing 60 points six times. With 582 points in 613 career NHL games, consisting of 284 goals and 298 assists, Connor has established himself as a key player in the league.
Furthermore, his outstanding sportsmanship and playing skills were recognized in 2022 when he was awarded the prestigious Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. This accolade is presented to the player who demonstrates exceptional sportsmanship, gentlemanly conduct, and high playing standards.
