London, Ont. teenagers have designed a new board game called “American Dictator,” inspired by the controversial actions of U.S. President Donald Trump during his second term in office. The game satirizes Trump’s decisions, including proposing to rename the Gulf of Mexico, introducing a tax and spending bill, and being involved in high-profile court cases.
Similar to Monopoly, “American Dictator” involves players buying and taking over American cities to develop properties. Special game spaces allow players to imprison opponents in a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility, manipulate rules with a Supreme Court justice card, or visit a casino for financial gains. The game also features cards reflecting current trends like Canadians boycotting travel to the U.S.
The teenage creators, who sold 25 copies of the game in the first week, aim to educate players, especially youngsters, about politics in a lighthearted manner. They hope the game will spark conversations and raise awareness about standing up for what is right in society. The group plans to release more geopolitical-themed games and merchandise in the future.
“American Dictator” is currently available for purchase online, with the designers expressing curiosity about President Trump’s reaction if he were to play the game. Their message to players is to advocate for justice and defend their country against unjust actions.
