“Montreal Streetwear Brand Kuwalla Tee Gets Recognition for Original White Fleece Jacket in ‘Heated Rival

Must read

A streetwear company based in Montreal is receiving recognition for being the original source of the white fleece jacket that was altered to create a popular jacket featured in the series “Heated Rivalry.” CEO and founder of Kuwalla Tee, Yaniv Abecassis, shared how the company’s jacket, customized for the show, gained popularity across Canada after its appearance in the second episode. However, Abecassis expressed disappointment that Kuwalla Tee did not receive acknowledgment for their contribution.

The modified jacket, designed by Canadian costume designer Hanna Puley, features red lettering spelling out “Canada” on the back, red accents on the collar and zipper pulls, and maple leaves on the arms. The jacket was intended to be cozy and simple, as described by Puley.

The character Shane Hollander, portrayed by Hudson Williams, wears the jacket during scenes set at the Sochi Olympics. Although the jacket is not official Team Canada merchandise, fans have shown interest in purchasing it since its TV debut. Williams even presented a similar fleece to Prime Minister Mark Carney at a recent event in Ottawa.

To address the demand for the fleece, the show creators have partnered with a Canadian clothing company, Province of Canada. However, Kuwalla Tee raised concerns about their fleece being used to promote the new product without receiving credit. Abecassis took steps to ensure proper recognition before involving CBC News.

Following negotiations, an agreement was reached, and Kuwalla Tee has now been credited by “Heated Rivalry” TV and Province of Canada in their social media posts featuring the cream fleece jacket. Despite legal perspectives suggesting limited grounds for a case, the company has secured acknowledgment for their contribution to the viral jacket.
