Almost four decades ago, in a 1978 interview with Paul Soles on CBC, the cherished Canadian actress, comedian, and writer Catherine O’Hara displayed her early comedic talent in a favorite skit – a parody commercial for a product called “Milk of Amnesia.”
“Once the children are in bed, and I’m exhausted,” she shared. “After a tough day, do you ever dream of unwinding and forgetting the day’s troubles? I certainly do – thanks to Philips Milk of Amnesia. I simply pour myself a glass of Philips Milk of Amnesia, and watch the worries of the day drift away to who knows where.”
In recognition of O’Hara, who has been nominated for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Comedic Role at the Canadian Screen Awards for her role as Moira Rose on “Schitt’s Creek,” CBC Arts uncovered this archival clip. Take a seat, relish the moment, and reminisce about why O’Hara first brought laughter to our lives.
