“Jets Shake Up NFL Trade Landscape with Gardner and Williams Deals”

Must read

The dynamic of the NFL trade landscape shifted significantly as Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, both star defensive players, were part of separate high-profile trades. The New York Jets orchestrated these trades, aiming to revamp their team given their extended playoff absence in the league.

Gardner, a standout cornerback with two All-Pro nods, was traded to the Indianapolis Colts, receiving two first-round draft picks and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell in return. The Jets secured the Colts’ first-round selections for 2026 and 2027 in this deal.

Williams, a prominent defensive force, is set to join the Dallas Cowboys after the Jets agreed to a trade involving a second-round pick in 2026, a first-round pick in 2027, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. The Jets will also gain the better of the Cowboys’ two first-round picks in 2027.

In a flurry of activity leading up to the NFL trade deadline, the Cowboys bolstered their defense further by acquiring linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals for a seventh-round pick. Additionally, wide receiver Jakobi Meyers moved to the Jacksonville Jaguars from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for fourth and sixth-round draft picks.

The Seattle Seahawks also made moves, acquiring wideout Rashid Shaheed from the New Orleans Saints for fourth and fifth-round picks. Gardner, who had recently signed a lucrative contract extension with the Jets, is poised to make an impact with the AFC South-leading Colts.

Williams, a highly decorated player, is committed to the Cowboys through 2027 with a substantial contract. Shaheed’s transition from the struggling Saints to the Seahawks promises to add depth to the Seattle offense.

Meanwhile, Meyers’ arrival in Jacksonville provides the Jaguars with additional offensive options, crucial as they navigate injuries within their receiving corps. Wilson, seeking more playing time, found a new opportunity with the Ravens after a trade with the Bengals. The Eagles, reigning Super Bowl champions, reinforced their defense by acquiring edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, along with cornerbacks Michael Carter II and Jaire Alexander, in recent transactions.

The NFL trade market has seen a flurry of activity in recent months, with notable player movements including Joe Flacco to the Bengals, Roger McCreary to the Rams, Keion White to the 49ers, Kyle Dugger to the Steelers, and a cornerback swap between the Jaguars and Browns involving Greg Newsome II and Tyson Campbell. The Chargers also made a significant move, acquiring edge rusher Odafe Oweh from the Ravens in exchange for safety Alohi Gilman.
