“Russia Launches Drone Attack on Ukraine, Four Dead”

Must read

Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine overnight, using hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles, resulting in at least four casualties in the capital city. This assault marked the second time in the ongoing conflict that Russia deployed a new hypersonic missile, targeting western Ukraine as a warning to Kyiv’s NATO allies.

The strike occurred following recent progress in discussions between Ukraine and its allies on defense strategies against Moscow’s aggression if a U.S.-led peace agreement is reached. European leaders criticized the attack as “escalatory and unacceptable,” with the EU’s top foreign policy representative condemning Russian President Vladimir Putin’s reliance on military action over diplomacy.

The bombardment coincided with strained relations between Moscow and Washington after Russia criticized the U.S. seizure of an oil tanker in the North Atlantic. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump signaled support for extensive sanctions against Moscow, as Russia remained firm on its demands concerning Ukraine.

In Kyiv, the attack left four dead and over 25 injured, damaging numerous apartment buildings. Vital facilities, including hospitals and maternity wards, had their power and heat restored by municipal services using portable boiler units. The Qatari Embassy in Kyiv was also hit during the assault.

Ukraine’s Security Service confirmed debris from the Oreshnik missile in Lviv, fired from Russia’s Kapustin Yar test range. The missile struck civilian infrastructure in the Lviv region, prompting strong reactions from Ukrainian officials and calls for urgent international actions, including UN Security Council meetings.

The Oreshnik missile, previously used in Dnipro in 2024, poses a significant threat, with its high speed and multiple warheads. Ukrainian intelligence revealed plans to seek international support against Russia’s aggressive actions, emphasizing the gravity of the situation for European and transatlantic security.

Leaders from key nations like Britain, France, and Germany condemned the attack as “escalatory and unacceptable,” highlighting the need for a peaceful resolution. Canada’s Prime Minister also denounced the missile launch, urging Russia to cease its aggression and end the ongoing conflict.

Despite the devastation caused by the attack, residents in affected areas expressed resilience and a strong desire for peace, underscoring the impact of the conflict on innocent civilians. The situation remains tense as diplomatic efforts intensify to address the escalating crisis in Ukraine.
