“Chloe Kim Shines in Halfpipe Qualifiers, Eyes Third Gold”

Must read

American snowboarder Chloe Kim impressed in the halfpipe qualifying rounds at the Milano Cortina Winter Games, confidently securing a spot in the finals as she vies for her third consecutive gold medal. Kim, a snowboarding legend, showcased her skills on the Alpine slopes of Livigno, scoring 90.25 and outshining her competitors. Despite a shoulder injury last month, Kim showed no signs of slowing down, with her closest rival, Sara Shimizu of Japan, trailing behind at 87.50. Canadian snowboarder Elizabeth Hosking also advanced to the final after finishing in eighth place during the qualifiers.

In her second run, Kim attempted more challenging tricks but had some shaky landings. However, her strong performance in the first run secured her lead. The halfpipe event involves riders navigating a 22-foot-tall ramp, executing aerial maneuvers. Kim, who previously won gold in Pyeongchang 2018 and Beijing 2022, aims to make history by becoming the first snowboarder, male or female, to win three consecutive Olympic gold medals.

Despite a setback during training in Switzerland, Kim expressed confidence in her recovery and competed with a shoulder brace. The competition saw Chinese rider Liu Jiayu, a silver medalist from 2018, suffer a crash in her run, requiring medical attention. Hosking expressed concern for her fellow competitors, emphasizing the competitive yet supportive nature of the sport.

The stage is set for an exciting showdown in the women’s halfpipe finals, with Chloe Kim poised to continue her dominance in the sport.
