The recent week has seen significant rainfall in and around Hamilton, and with more precipitation expected, Environment Canada has cautioned that there may be pooling of water on roads and in low-lying areas.
Hamilton, Burlington, Brantford, and the Niagara Region are among the municipalities in southwestern Ontario that have been issued a special weather statement by the federal weather agency, released on Thursday morning.
According to Environment Canada, Halton and Waterdown could experience approximately 20 mm of rainfall today, while the rest of Hamilton and Niagara may see between 10 to 20 mm.
Environment Canada highlighted that “The ground, already near saturation, has a limited capacity to absorb this rainfall.”
No flood alerts from conservation authorities
The agency also mentioned the possibility of rain and thunderstorms throughout the day, but noted that rainfall levels “will likely vary significantly across the region.”
Individuals are advised to steer clear of low-lying areas and refrain from driving through flooded roads, as per the agency’s recommendations.
Both the Hamilton Conservation Authority and the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority have not issued any flood warnings for their respective watersheds.
