A family from Gatineau, Quebec, is grieving this holiday season following the tragic discovery of a married couple found deceased during their vacation in the Dominican Republic. The bodies of Alain Noël and Christine Sauvé were found by their son in their vacation home in Villa Riva on Boxing Day, as reported by Radio-Canada. The circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unknown, and authorities in the Dominican Republic are conducting an investigation.
Gilles Sauvé Jr., the brother of Christine Sauvé, revealed that local officials informed him that the results of the autopsies would be provided to the family within 45 days. He expressed deep distress when speaking with Radio-Canada in French, stating that the couple had been married for 31 years and had viewed their travels as part of their retirement plans, akin to snowbirds.
According to Sauvé, he had a conversation with his sister the day before the tragic discovery. She had mentioned feeling dizzy and had gone to the hospital for tests. Scheduled for further scans on Boxing Day, she never made it due to the unforeseen events. Sauvé is currently in the Dominican Republic to secure death certificates, liaise with authorities, and arrange for the repatriation of the bodies to Quebec. However, he emphasized the challenges faced during the holiday season, noting the closure of services and embassies, which has slowed down the process significantly.
Global Affairs Canada stated that Canadian officials are offering consular support and collaborating with local authorities to gather additional details on the incident. Describing the couple, Sauvé highlighted their strong family ties and community involvement.
