“Burlington Man Jailed 5 Years for Threats to Women”

Must read

A man from Burlington, Ontario, has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to making threats towards two women. DeAndre Anderson, 25, was arrested in April 2024 and charged with uttering threats related to the incel ideology. The sentencing took place in the Ontario Court of Justice in Burlington, where Justice Jennifer Crawford approved a deduction for pre-sentence custody, requiring Anderson to serve approximately 28½ months.

The charges against Anderson, viewed as terrorist activities under the Criminal Code, resulted from a collaborative investigation involving the Halton Regional Police Service and the FBI. Anderson, using the online alias MrUgly420, made threatening posts on an incel website between December 2022 and April 2024, expressing violent intentions towards a former classmate and sharing her photo.

Upon his arrest, authorities discovered plans by Anderson to harm his dentist and commit random acts of violence against women. Despite not acting on his threats, Anderson’s public dissemination of hateful content normalized and promoted violence, as stated by Justice Crawford. She emphasized the severity of Anderson’s actions and responsibility, justifying the five-year prison term as appropriate for the offense and his level of culpability.

During his incarceration, Anderson participated in various programs aimed at rehabilitation, including anger management, stress management, and job readiness. Expressing remorse for his actions in court, Anderson acknowledged his regret for the content posted on the incel platform. Justice Crawford outlined that Anderson’s potential release would be contingent on successful rehabilitation efforts and approval by the Parole Board, with a requirement to serve at least half of the sentence before parole consideration.
