Must read

Canadian actors have garnered multiple nominations for the Actor Awards, SAG-AFTRA’s annual recognition of outstanding performances in Hollywood films and television/streaming shows. The nominations were unveiled by actors Connor Storrie from “Heated Rivalry” and Janelle James from “Abbott Elementary.” Notable nominees include Seth Rogen and Catherine O’Hara vying for leading role awards in their respective categories for Apple TV’s “The Studio,” created by Rogen. Additionally, Martin Short is nominated alongside Rogen in the leading actor category for his role in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.”

Both “The Studio” and “Only Murders in the Building” are also contenders for outstanding ensemble performances in comedy series. The awards ceremony is scheduled to be livestreamed on Netflix from Los Angeles on March 1.

The Actor Awards, formerly known as the SAG Awards, often serve as a precursor to the Academy Awards. The film “One Battle After Another,” directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, has amassed a record seven nominations in various movie categories. Competing against films like “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme,” and “Sinners,” “One Battle After Another” is a strong contender for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.

The principal cast members of “One Battle After Another” have received individual acting nominations, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, Michael B. Jordan, Ethan Hawke, and Jesse Plemons contending for leading actor awards. Actresses like Chase Infiniti, Jessie Buckley, Rose Byrne, Kate Hudson, and Emma Stone are nominated for best actress.

The film’s Teyana Taylor is nominated for supporting actress, while Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn are up for supporting actor awards. Notably, “One Battle After Another” has broken records with its seven nominations, a feat unseen in the 31-year history of the SAG Awards.

In the television and streaming series categories, “The Studio” leads with five nominations. The series has been on a winning streak, having secured numerous accolades in the past. Notable nominations include Ike Barinholtz and Kathryn Hahn for lead actor and actress categories, respectively.

In the drama category, “The White Lotus” garnered the most nominations, including outstanding ensemble. The series will compete with other notable shows like “The Diplomat,” “Landman,” “The Pitt,” and “Severance.” “The White Lotus” also earned nominations for actresses Parker Posey and Aimee Lou Wood, and actor Walton Goggins.
