“Goodfood License Suspended Amid Compliance Issues”

Must read

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has temporarily halted the license of Goodfood, a meal kit and grocery delivery service based in Montreal. The suspension of the Safe Food for Canadians license, as announced by the CFIA in a news release, does not involve any product recalls.

According to the regulations of the Safe Food for Canadians program, food businesses engaged in the manufacturing, processing, preservation, or packaging of food for interprovincial or international trade must possess a valid license. The CFIA indicated that corrective actions by the license holder will be necessary for the license suspension to be lifted.

The compliance issues leading to the suspension of Goodfood’s license were identified in part four of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, which focuses on preventive controls, as reported by the federal agency. Failure to address these issues within 90 days may result in the cancellation of the license.

The CFIA outlined three main reasons for suspending Safe Food for Canadians licenses: non-compliance with the regulations, failure to pay associated fees, and posing a risk of harm to the public by continuing licensed activities.

A representative of Goodfood Market Corp. expressed disappointment over the license suspension of their Montreal facility but assured customers that the Calgary facility remains operational without any food safety concerns. The company is actively working to address the procedural issues that led to the suspension and expects to resolve them promptly.

Despite the license suspension, Goodfood customers can expect minimal disruptions in their orders, with nationwide deliveries continuing as usual, albeit with some exceptions.
