“Canadian Swimmer Summer McIntosh Withdraws from World Cup Due to Illness”

Must read

Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh has had to pull out of the upcoming World Cup event in Carmel, Indiana due to an unexpected illness. In a statement shared on her social media, McIntosh expressed her disappointment at missing the race but stated that following medical advice, she would not be competing in Carmel. She wished her fellow swimmers the best for the highly competitive event.

Having been in Carmel preparing for the competition, McIntosh is now focusing on rest and recovery, with uncertainty surrounding her participation in the following week’s event in Westmount, Illinois. The World Cup tour, which comprises three legs, will conclude at the Pan Am Sports Centre in Toronto from October 23 to 25, offering a total prize purse of $1.2 million. Swimmers have the chance to win $10,000 for breaking a world record during the competition.

Another lucrative prize of $10,000 awaits any swimmer who can achieve the “crown” by winning the same event at all three World Cup stops. McIntosh is among the Canadian swimmers, including Josh Liendo, Kylie Masse, Mary-Sophie Harvey, and Ilya Kharun, who have signed up for the tour. Notable international swimmers set to compete include Leon Marchand, Noe Ponti, Mollie O’Callaghan, Regan Smith, Thomas Ceccon, and Kaylee McKeown.

McIntosh, who recently relocated to Austin, Texas to train under renowned coach Bob Bowman, had a remarkable performance at the world aquatics championships last summer, winning four gold medals and a bronze. This achievement made her one of the few swimmers in history to secure five individual medals at a single world championships.
