“Neil Young Offers Greenlanders His Music Collection”

Must read

Neil Young has generously offered the people of Greenland access to his complete music collection. The renowned musician made the announcement through his blog on Tuesday, extending the gesture to residents of Denmark’s semiautonomous region. Young expressed his hope that his music and music films would help alleviate some of the stress and threats faced by the Greenlanders due to recent political tensions involving the U.S. and NATO.

The offer, valid for a year with the possibility of renewal, requires applicants to possess a Greenland-based cellphone. Young emphasized that the initiative is a symbol of “Peace and Love.” This move stands in contrast to his recent decision to withhold his music from the Amazon Music platform as a protest against its founder, Jeff Bezos, a known supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump.

In a statement last week, Young criticized Amazon Music’s ownership by Bezos, highlighting his opposition to the president’s policies and support of ICE. Despite not receiving an immediate response from Amazon Music’s representative or Young’s manager, the musician’s stance on supporting platforms aligned with his values is evident.

Not new to conflicts with streaming services, Young previously removed his music from Spotify in objection to certain content on the platform. His ongoing concerns about audio quality also led to a temporary removal of his music from Spotify in 2015. However, his music remains available on Apple Music alongside his notable hits like “Rockin’ in the Free World” and “Heart of Gold.”
