In a nostalgic moment during the holiday season, reminiscing about the past year’s highlights always stirs sentimental feelings. Just like in one of my favorite movies, sports moments also hold a special place in our memories. Let’s celebrate some of the standout athletes and events of 2025 with a collection of 12 photos, each representing a month of the year.

Starting in January, the Philadelphia Eagles’ Saquon Barkley showcased an outstanding performance, rushing for 205 yards and scoring two crucial touchdowns to help his team secure a victory over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL playoffs. Barkley’s exceptional season culminated in a Super Bowl win against Kansas City.

February witnessed intense hockey action as Canadian player Brandon Hagel engaged in a spirited bout with U.S. star Matthew Tkachuk during a high-energy matchup. Although the Americans claimed an initial victory, Canada avenged their defeat later in the season.

March highlighted Washington Capitals’ star Alexander Ovechkin’s pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goal-scoring record. Ovechkin’s monumental achievement was recognized as he surpassed Gretzky’s milestone.

In April, golfer Rory McIlroy clinched his first green jacket at Augusta by winning a sudden-death playoff against Justin Rose, accomplishing a career Grand Slam. The golfer continued his success, contributing to Europe’s Ryder Cup victory later in the year.

May saw the Florida Panthers staging a remarkable comeback led by forward Carter Verhaeghe, who played a pivotal role in his team’s victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup final.

In June, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander showcased exceptional skills by leading his team to victory in a hard-fought NBA Finals series. Gilgeous-Alexander’s stellar performance earned him prestigious accolades and recognition.

Summer McIntosh, a swimming sensation, made waves in July by winning multiple gold medals at the world championships, displaying her remarkable talent and determination at a young age.

August witnessed another Canadian teen, Victoria Mboko, making headlines in tennis by defeating top-ranked players to win the Canadian Open and achieving a significant rise in the world rankings.

Canadian athletes shone in September at the track and field world championships, with standout performances from hammer thrower Camryn Rogers and other talented competitors.

October brought both joy and heartbreak for Toronto Blue Jays fans as the team narrowly missed securing the World Series title. Despite the loss, players like Ernie Clement left a lasting impact with their exceptional performances.

In November, veteran quarterback Trevor Harris led the Saskatchewan Roughriders to a historic Grey Cup victory, marking a significant milestone in the team’s history.

Finally, in December, alpine skier Lindsey Vonn made a remarkable comeback by winning a World Cup race in Switzerland, solidifying her status as a top contender for the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Reflecting on these memorable moments, we bid farewell to 2025 with gratitude and anticipation for the sporting events that lie ahead in the new year.
