The 79th Cannes Film Festival has commenced, marking the start of nearly a fortnight of excitement on the French Riviera as directors and celebrities grace the red carpet for the opening ceremony and the premiere of the movie “The Electric Kiss.”
Running for 12 days, the festival features a continuous stream of world premieres leading up to the grand finale on May 23, where the Palme d’Or, a highly esteemed award in the film industry, will be presented. Heading this year’s Cannes jury is South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, joined by Stellan Skarsgård, Diego Céspedes, Laura Wandel, Demi Moore, Chloé Zhao, Isaach de Bankolé, and Ruth Negga.
Participants expected to make appearances in the following days include Kristen Stewart, Barbra Streisand, Adam Driver, Javier Bardem, Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, Rami Malek, among others. Model, TV host, and actor Heidi Klum was spotted posing for photographers at the festival’s opening.
A lineup of renowned filmmakers will also present their latest works, including Pedro Almodóvar with “Bitter Christmas,” James Gray with “Paper Tiger,” Na Hong-jin with “Hope,” Pawel Pawlikowski with “Fatherland,” and Ryusuke Hamaguchi with “All of a Sudden.” Additionally, director Peter Jackson, the recipient of this year’s honorary Palme d’Or, was seen waving at the opening ceremony.
Various personalities, including Irish reality TV star Maura Higgins and actor Elijah Wood with his wife, Danish film producer Mette-Marie Kongsved, were captured posing for photographers at the festival. The event also saw actor Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu and spectators attending the opening ceremony in Cannes.
The festival promises an exciting lineup of events and premieres, drawing attention from fans and media alike.
