“Saskatchewan Roughriders Fans Celebrate Tailgating Legislation”

Must read

Saskatchewan Roughriders supporters are set to have the opportunity to socialize and savor their own alcoholic beverages outside Mosaic Stadium with the unveiling of tailgating legislation by the province. The novel Tailgating Act modifies the province’s Alcohol Control Regulations to allow tailgating in a parking area near the Roughriders stadium during home matches.

CEO and President of the Roughriders, Craig Reynolds, emphasized that the adjustment, permitting tailgating exclusively for season ticket-holders, is designed as a fan appreciation gesture rather than a revenue-boosting tactic. Reynolds anticipated a significant demand surpassing the supply, foreseeing season ticket holders engaging in pregame festivities before entering the stadium.

The objective is to commence with a “manageable” crowd and potentially broaden the scope in the future, Reynolds elaborated. In the event of the legislation’s approval, oversight of the tailgating space would be handled by staff, likely from Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL), ensuring controlled vehicle access and enforcing conduct guidelines.

Alana Ross, the minister overseeing the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, indicated that the regulations would mandate a permit and involve close collaboration with SLGA to ensure a successful implementation. Ross expressed collective efforts to ensure an enjoyable experience for Roughriders fans, emphasizing collaboration between various stakeholders.

The provincial legislation was prompted by the Roughriders’ engagement with the government earlier this year, according to Reynolds. He mentioned exploring tailgating policies of other CFL teams like Calgary and Edmonton, with plans to extend the research to additional markets.

The updated regulations are slated for readiness by the 2026 CFL season, initially applying to events at Mosaic Stadium during Saskatchewan Roughriders’ home games. Post the 2026 CFL season conclusion, expansion of eligibility is under consideration by the province.
