Canadian short track speed skater Will Dandjinou showcased his dominance at the men’s World Tour event in Gdansk, Poland. The Montreal athlete clinched victory in both the men’s 1,500 and 500-meter finals, leading the Canadian Ice Maples to a successful day with a total of four medals. Dandjinou’s teammates, Courtney Sarault and Steven Dubois, secured silver and bronze medals, respectively.
In the men’s 1,500m final, the 24-year-old Dandjinou finished first with a time of 2 minutes and 24.153 seconds, outpacing Italians Thomas Nadalini and Pietro Sighel. Meanwhile, Dubois, hailing from Terrebonne, Que., claimed sixth place in the final with a time of 2:24.834.
Dandjinou expressed his satisfaction with his performance, emphasizing the challenges posed by the ice conditions. He continued his winning streak in the men’s 500m final, crossing the finish line in 40.849 seconds to secure another gold medal. Xiaojun Lin of China took silver, while Dubois grabbed the bronze in 41.505 seconds.
With these victories, Dandjinou has now accumulated five gold medals this season, solidifying his lead in the overall standings. He currently holds 642 points from races, maintaining a significant advantage over his closest competitor, Sighel. Dubois follows closely behind in third place, trailing the Italian by 10 points.
Sarault also shone in the women’s 1,000m final, securing a silver medal with a time of 1:30.575. Despite challenging ice conditions, she demonstrated resilience and strategic racing. Sarault’s performance places her atop the overall standings with 570 points, with American skater Corrine Stoddard in second place with 480 points.
