Britney Spears, aged 44, faced charges in California for driving under the influence of a mix of drugs and alcohol, as stated by authorities. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office filed a single misdemeanor charge against the pop star. The nature and quantity of the substances involved were not detailed in the criminal complaint.
Following an incident on March 4th where Spears was driving recklessly in her black BMW on U.S. 101 and subsequently arrested for suspected impaired driving, she has since sought treatment for substance abuse. The California Highway Patrol reported her arrest and subsequent release on bail the next day, with the investigation being concluded and presented to prosecutors on March 23rd.
An arraignment for Spears is scheduled for Monday, with no requirement for her to be present in court due to the misdemeanor nature of the charge. The pop icon, known for hits like “Toxic” and “Oops! … I Did It Again,” rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s but has faced public scrutiny and personal struggles in recent years, including being under a conservatorship until its dissolution in 2021. Despite her past challenges, Spears has made personal and artistic strides, including marriage, divorce, and the release of a successful memoir.
In recent times, Spears has taken a step back from her music career, with limited releases since her last full album in 2016.
