“Former Fauci Adviser Charged in COVID Cover-Up”

Must read

A former senior adviser to Dr. Anthony Fauci has been charged with federal offenses for allegedly conspiring to conceal his communications regarding COVID-19 research during the pandemic, according to the U.S. Justice Department’s announcement on Tuesday. Dr. David Morens, aged 78, is accused of deliberately bypassing public records laws by using his personal email account while working at the National Institutes of Health. The Justice Department claims that he hid or destroyed records of conversations concerning COVID-19 research grants, including an attempt to revive a contentious coronavirus grant.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche condemned Morens’ actions, stating that they betrayed public trust at a critical time when transparency was essential amidst a global health crisis. The charges against Morens include conspiracy against the United States, tampering with records in federal investigations, concealing or altering records, and aiding and abetting. If found guilty, he could potentially face a lengthy prison sentence. Morens’ legal representative has chosen not to provide a comment on the matter.

The indictment aligns with the long-standing belief among Republicans that crucial information about COVID-19 was withheld by the federal government during the pandemic’s peak. Despite various inquiries, the exact origins of COVID-19 remain uncertain, with scientists debating whether the virus originated from an animal source or resulted from a laboratory incident. A U.S. intelligence report from 2023 stated that there is insufficient evidence to definitively support either hypothesis.

Blanche suggested that Morens’ alleged actions were aimed at stifling alternative explanations regarding the origins of COVID-19. Furthermore, the Justice Department accused Morens of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a colleague, which reportedly involved accepting a wine gift and discussing COVID-19 research and potential publications in a prestigious medical journal.

The indictment follows an investigation by House Republicans into the pandemic’s origins, focusing on Morens’ email exchanges and accusing him of deliberately concealing records. Morens refuted these accusations during his congressional testimony, denying any attempts to evade transparency laws by using his personal email account.
