Snow and poor visibility have led to the postponement of the women’s snowboard slopestyle final and both the women’s and men’s freestyle aerials qualification at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The slopestyle final at Livigno Snow Park was the first event to be called off, followed by the aerials’ qualification at the nearby Livigno Aerials and Moguls Park.
Initially, the organizers delayed the men’s aerials qualifying, aiming to start the women’s aerials qualifying later in the day. However, due to the challenging weather conditions preventing the air ambulance from flying in case of emergencies, the women’s aerials qualifying was also canceled.
The rescheduled events include the women’s slopestyle final, now set for Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., and the men’s slopestyle final moved up to 11:20 a.m. The women’s aerials and men’s aerials competitions are rescheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
The only event remaining on Tuesday’s schedule in Livigno is the men’s freeski big air final, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., subject to weather conditions. This disruption marks the second consecutive day of adverse weather affecting the Olympic schedule in Livigno.
Canadian snowboarders Laurie Blouin and Juliette Pelchat are among the athletes competing in the slopestyle event. Blouin, a two-time world champion, and Pelchat, a first-time Olympian, are set to showcase their skills. In the men’s slopestyle final, Canadians Mark McMorris and Cameron Spalding are gearing up to compete for top honors.
The Livigno Snow Park’s slopestyle course, spanning 650 meters with a 165-meter vertical drop, features various obstacles for riders to demonstrate their tricks. The heavy snowfall can impact the speed and performance of the athletes during the competition.
