Rudolph Giuliani, the former Mayor of New York City and a one-time adviser to former U.S. President Donald Trump, is currently in critical but stable condition at a hospital, according to his spokesperson’s statement on Sunday. The reason for the 81-year-old’s hospitalization and the duration of his stay were not disclosed by Ted Goodman.
Goodman emphasized Giuliani’s resilience in facing life’s challenges and stated that the former mayor is fighting with the same level of strength he has shown throughout his life. Giuliani, who is also known for hosting the online show “America’s Mayor Live,” broadcasted from Palm Beach, Florida on Friday evening. During the show, he exhibited a raspy voice and mentioned his voice being affected, stating he would speak closer to the microphone due to feeling under the weather.
Recognized as “America’s mayor” for his leadership following the 9/11 attacks in 2001, Giuliani later served as Trump’s personal attorney and strongly supported Trump’s claims of election fraud in the 2020 election, which resulted in Joe Biden’s victory. Despite numerous legal challenges and investigations, no substantial evidence of fraud was found.
Former President Trump expressed his support for Giuliani on social media, praising him as a “True Warrior” and criticizing the treatment he received from political opponents. Giuliani faced legal troubles, including a defamation judgment of $148 million in favor of two Georgia election workers. He managed to resolve the situation by reaching an agreement that allowed him to retain his assets in exchange for compensation and refraining from defamatory statements.
Giuliani was previously hospitalized in September due to injuries sustained in a car accident in New Hampshire. A prominent figure in New York’s political landscape, Giuliani was elected as mayor in 1993 following a successful career as a prosecutor targeting organized crime and financial misconduct. His Senate campaign in 2000 was cut short after a prostate cancer diagnosis.
The latest hospitalization marks another health setback for Giuliani, whose condition remains under close observation by medical professionals.
