“5.6 Magnitude Quake Rattles Vancouver Island”

A 5.6 magnitude earthquake has occurred under the sea near Vancouver Island. The quake struck at 11:41 p.m. PT on Sunday, approximately 219 kilometers southwest of Port Hardy on the northern tip of Vancouver Island, at a depth of around 10 kilometers below the ocean floor. According to Earthquakes Canada, there was no threat of a tsunami.

The earthquake’s epicenter lies close to several significant communities on Vancouver Island, such as Campbell River, located about 300 kilometers away, and Port Alberni at a distance of 330 kilometers. Reports indicate that the tremor was felt in Metro Vancouver, over 450 kilometers southeast of the epicenter, with shaking also noted in the northern parts of Vancouver Island.
