Ottawa authorities reported a tragic incident where a young boy lost his life after falling from an apartment window on Laurier Avenue E. near the University of Ottawa on Monday evening. Paramedics rushed the boy to the hospital with severe injuries sustained from the fall around 6:45 p.m. The child, described as under eight years old, was discovered critically injured next to a building and was later pronounced dead at CHEO, Ottawa’s children’s hospital. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident as standard protocol following a sudden death.
Following the unfortunate event, the rental company Homestead communicated with tenants, emphasizing the importance of window restrictors to limit opening distance and advising against tampering with them. Tenants were urged to promptly report any issues with window restrictors, and all units were scheduled for window inspections on Tuesday. The company expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended sympathies to the child, family, and all those impacted.
