Alphonso Davies Returns in Style for Bayern Munich

Must read

Canada’s Alphonso Davies made a comeback for Bayern Munich after a 262-day absence due to a severe knee injury. The 25-year-old Edmonton native entered the game as a substitute in the 88th minute during Bayern’s 3-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League at Allianz Arena.

Josip Stanisic started as the left back for Bayern against Sporting Lisbon, but Davies hinted on the Film Never Lies podcast that coach Vincent Kompany might bring him on. Davies, expressing uncertainty about his playing time, mentioned that the decision was in the coach’s hands.

Replacing Serge Gnabry, a German international and one of Bayern’s scorers, Davies took the field for the first time since sustaining a knee injury in March while representing Canada against the United States in a CONCACAF Nations League match. The injury, which involved ligament tears and other damage in his right knee, led Bayern to criticize the Canadian national team for alleged inadequate medical assessments before Davies flew back to Germany.
