Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have reached an agreement to resolve their legal dispute concerning their 2024 movie “It Ends With Us.” The actors settled their case just before the scheduled trial in New York. Lively had accused Baldoni of collaborating with publicists to tarnish her reputation after she privately accused him of sexual harassment on set.
In a joint statement issued by their legal representatives, Lively and Baldoni expressed their commitment to raising awareness and supporting survivors of domestic violence. The terms of the settlement were not made public.
The legal battle, which began when Lively sued Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, in late 2024, escalated as Baldoni countersued, alleging defamation and extortion involving Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist.
The settlement agreement will prevent a trial that could have exposed the dark side of the entertainment industry and potentially revealed damaging information. The settlement came after a federal judge dismissed some claims from both parties.
The joint statement emphasized the importance of addressing workplace improprieties and creating productive environments. Despite the turmoil surrounding their legal dispute, the movie “It Ends With Us,” based on a bestselling novel about domestic violence, garnered success at the box office.
Lively alleged that Baldoni made inappropriate comments, violated boundaries during filming, and pressured her for nudity against her wishes. Baldoni denied any misconduct and claimed that Lively’s accusations were aimed at seizing creative control of the film.
The legal proceedings were expected to focus on Lively’s claims that Baldoni and the studio retaliated against her harassment complaints by launching a negative publicity campaign. Baldoni’s legal team argued that Lively was manipulating his public image with the help of her connections.
Both actors have notable careers in the entertainment industry, with Lively starring in various films and TV shows, while Baldoni is known for his acting, directing, and advocacy work challenging traditional notions of masculinity.
