The Toronto Blue Jays have included one of their top hitters, Bo Bichette, in the lineup for the World Series showdown with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Bichette, who had been sidelined since September 6 due to a left knee injury, was named in the team’s 26-man squad for the best-of-seven series.
Expected to take on the role of second baseman and bat in the cleanup position, Bichette’s return was confirmed by the Blue Jays just hours before the commencement of Game 1 at Rogers Centre on Friday night. Alongside Bichette, outfielders Myles Straw and Davis Schneider were given starting positions, with Nathan Lukes, Addison Barger, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa as available bench options.
Having shown improvement in his recent performances, Bichette displayed his readiness by engaging in base running, defensive drills, and batting practice leading up to the series. In a shift of lineup, the Blue Jays also included infielder Ty France on the 26-man list, while reliever Yariel Rodriguez and outfielder Joey Loperfido were left out.
During a media day session, Bichette expressed his adaptability to any role required by the team, highlighting his commitment to contribute effectively. The 23-year-old, known for leading the team in hits during the regular season, emphasized his focus on supporting the team rather than seeking individual glory.
The Blue Jays’ decision to opt for a roster with 14 position players and 12 pitchers for the Fall Classic marked a strategic shift from their previous lineup composition in the ALCS. Bichette, a standout performer with a .311 batting average in the regular season, aims to play a crucial role in the team’s quest for victory in the World Series.
In response, the Dodgers also made adjustments to their roster, including the addition of right-handers Edgardo Henriquez and Will Klein while omitting lefty Alex Vesia and righty Ben Casparius. Notably, veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, secured a spot on the World Series roster after being excluded from previous series due to injury concerns.
Kershaw, who has hinted at retiring after this season, represents a key asset for the Dodgers as they face off against the Blue Jays in the highly anticipated World Series matchup.
