Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter, Vivienne, has expressed her desire to legally remove the surname “Pitt” from her name. Vivienne, who is one of their six children, submitted a formal petition to the Los Angeles County Superior Court to change her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie, as revealed in documents obtained by CBC News.
On her 18th birthday, which was on July 12, Vivienne signed the name change request and filed it independently, citing “personal” reasons for the change. Under California law, once a person turns 18, they are allowed to make such changes without the need for parental consent.
This development follows a trend within the family, as Vivienne’s sister, Shiloh, also dropped the surname “Pitt” in 2024. Earlier this year, both Zahara and Maddox initiated similar name change procedures. Maddox, who worked as an assistant director on Angelina Jolie’s film “Couture,” was credited as Maddox Jolie in the movie credits.
The decision comes amidst ongoing tension within the family following the high-profile split of the celebrity couple in 2016, which was marked by a lengthy legal battle and documented allegations. Jolie accused Pitt of various instances of misconduct, including physical abuse. However, a statement from the FBI indicated that no further investigation was pursued after reviewing the circumstances.
After more than a decade together and two years of marriage, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie finalized their divorce in 2024. Pitt has openly discussed his struggles with alcohol and his journey towards sobriety, which began in 2016. He attributes his sobriety to Alcoholics Anonymous and has not been publicly seen with his children for several years, unlike Jolie, who frequently appears with them and discusses them in interviews.
A hearing to address Vivienne’s name change request is scheduled for November 2, originally set for October 30 but rescheduled. Efforts to obtain a comment from Pitt’s representatives by CBC News have not yielded a response.
