“Canada Blanks Hungary 14-0, Faces Undefeated Sweden”

Canada now stands at 2-0 in the preliminary round following their previous 9-0 win against Switzerland. Up next, Canada is set to face undefeated Sweden on Tuesday in a Group A clash at the Sport and Wellness Centre in Membertou, Nova Scotia.

Canada and Sweden are leading Group A with flawless 2-0 records, while Switzerland and Hungary are both winless at 0-2. Megan Mossey contributed significantly with two goals and two assists in Monday’s game, where Canada outshot Hungary 74-11 and established a commanding 4-0 lead after the first period, extending it to 11-0 by the end of the second.

Additional goals for Canada came from Caileigh, Alida Korte, Sofia Ismael, Rachel Piggott, Madison Levesque, and Kendall Doiron. Anais Leprohon, Aurora Matt, and Ismael each provided three assists. Coach Vicky Sunohara expressed some disappointment in the defensive lapses during the game, emphasizing the need to tighten up for the upcoming match against Sweden.

The United States currently leads Group B with a flawless 2-0 record, while Czechia and Slovakia both hold 1-1 records, with Finland at 0-2.
