Must read

Canada’s rising tennis star, Victoria Mboko, has secured her spot in the final of the Adelaide International women’s tournament. The 19-year-old athlete, hailing from Toronto, triumphed over Australia’s Kimberly Birrell with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory in the semifinals held on Friday.

Mboko showcased her prowess on the court by delivering eight powerful aces and only committing three double faults during the match, which served as a preparatory event leading up to the forthcoming Australian Open. Demonstrating her skill, she successfully converted five out of seven break opportunities and impressively won 80% of her first-serve points.

In contrast, Birrell struggled to gain momentum, failing to secure any aces or break points throughout the match. The eighth-seeded Mboko is now poised to compete against third-seeded Russian player Mirra Andreeva in the final showdown scheduled for Saturday.

Mboko is gearing up for her debut appearance at the Australian Open later this month following a remarkable 2025 season on the WTA Tour. Her exceptional performance earned her the title of WTA Newcomer of the Year after clinching victory at the National Bank Open in Montreal and climbing from a starting ranking of 333 to an impressive 18 by the season’s end.
