Megan Oldham made Canadian history by securing multiple medals at the Milano-Cortina Olympics.

The 24-year-old freestyle skier clinched the gold in the women’s big air final by tallying 180.75 points in her top two runs, surpassing Chinese competitor Eileen Gu (179) on Monday in Italy. The two athletes shared a hug before stepping onto the podium.

“It’s an incredible feeling,” expressed Oldham to reporters. “I’m still trying to process it all. It’s truly a dream come true for me.

“I take immense pride in my performance tonight, landing the tricks I aimed for and showcasing my best skiing to make my country proud.”

Prior to her big air victory, Oldham secured a bronze in women’s slopestyle on February 9, marking her first Winter Games podium finish.

Other Canadian athletes boasting multiple medals include Mikaël Kingsbury (gold in dual moguls, silver in moguls) and short track speed skater Courtney Sarault (silver in 2,000m mixed relay, silver in 1,000m, bronze in 500m), contributing to Canada’s total of 11 medals.

Revisiting the 2022 Beijing Games, Oldham narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth in big air and 13th in slopestyle.

“After the last Games, I felt a sense of unfinished business, eager to showcase more in the upcoming Games,” shared Oldham, a native of Parry Sound, Ont., in a recent interview on nbcolympics.com. “I believed I had more potential to excel.”

Megan Oldham of Parry Sound, Ont., added a gold medal in freeski big air Monday after having claimed slopestyle bronze at Milano Cortina 2026.

In big air, skiers are required to complete three jumps and successfully land two of them, with scores based on difficulty and execution.

Despite a 75-minute delay due to weather conditions, Oldham commenced her gold-winning journey with a switch double cork 1260 with safety grab, earning 91.75 points and securing the silver position initially.
