“Canadian Teen Victoria Mboko Named WTA Newcomer of the Year”

Canadian tennis sensation Victoria Mboko has been honored as the WTA’s standout newcomer for the year. The WTA recently revealed its annual award winners, with the 19-year-old rising star from Toronto making a significant impact in 2025 by climbing from beyond the top 300 to the top 20 in the rankings. Mboko’s remarkable year was highlighted by her victory at the prestigious WTA 1000 National Bank Open in Montreal in August. She showcased her talent by defeating multiple Grand Slam singles champions, including the formidable Naomi Osaka, to clinch her maiden tour title.

In addition to her Montreal triumph, Mboko also secured a WTA title in Hong Kong later in November. Her successful season included claiming four consecutive ITF World Tennis Tour titles at the beginning of the year and reaching the third round at the French Open. Recently recognized as one of the International Tennis Federation’s top five future prospects, Mboko was also invited to meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney at his office on Parliament Hill.
