Must read

Canada’s Courtney Sarault secured a silver medal in the women’s 1,000-meter final at the Milano Cortina Olympic Games, marking her third podium finish during the Winter Games. Hailing from Moncton, N.B., the 25-year-old now boasts a collection of three medals from this prestigious event, having previously clinched a bronze in the women’s 500m final and a silver as part of Canada’s mixed relay team.

Expressing her elation over the accomplishment, Sarault described the moment as a dream come true, emphasizing her determination to showcase her skills and compete at her best in each event. Reflecting on the tough competition, she acknowledged the high level of talent among the participants, highlighting the importance of strategic decision-making and top-notch performance to secure victory.

In the thrilling race, Xandra Velzeboer from the Netherlands claimed the top spot with a time of 1 minute 28.437 seconds, while Sarault crossed the finish line in 1:28.523, securing the silver medal. South Korea’s Kim Gilli completed the podium, finishing with a time of 1:28.614.

Sarault led for the majority of the race before being overtaken by Velzeboer, with Kim moving into second place in the final laps. Despite a valiant effort to regain the lead in the last lap, Sarault fell just short of surpassing Velzeboer at the finish line.

Speaking after the race, Sarault expressed pride in her performance, acknowledging a minor error she made in the final moments of the race. She emphasized the importance of staying focused and giving her all in every race, despite the intense competition and pressure.

Sarault’s achievement of three medals at a single Games places her in elite company, matching the feat of her teammate Kim Boutin at the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics. Notably, Sarault’s silver medal in the 1,000m event represents a significant improvement over her performance at the previous Winter Games in Beijing 2022.

Looking ahead, Sarault is set to compete in additional events, including the women’s 3,000m relay final and the women’s 1,500m quarterfinals. With a strong determination to continue pushing herself, Sarault aims to build on her success and further add to her medal tally in the upcoming races.
