“Daryl Watts Scores Overtime Winner as Toronto Sceptres Defeat Vancouver Goldeneyes 2-1”

Must read

Daryl Watts netted the decisive goal in overtime at 2:16, securing a 2-1 victory for the Toronto Sceptres against the Vancouver Goldeneyes at Scotiabank Arena during Professional Women’s Hockey League competition on Saturday.

Toronto, with a record of 4-1-3-5, ended a four-game losing streak with Savannah Harmon also finding the back of the net. Raygan Kirk turned away 23 shots for the Sceptres.

Vancouver, now at 3-1-2-7, saw Sarah Nurse score, extending their losing streak to three games. Emerance Maschmeyer made 42 saves for the Goldeneyes.

Harmon capitalized on a power play opportunity, receiving a pass from Blayre Turnbull aimed at Maggie Connors, who missed the puck. Harmon took control, lined up her shot, and beat Maschmeyer at 12:43 of the second period for her first goal of the season.

Nurse returned to action after an eight-week absence due to an arm injury, scoring to tie the game at 1-1 shortly after Harmon’s goal.

Nurse, a key player for Toronto in previous seasons, was not protected during the expansion draft. She signed with Vancouver and made an impact in her return to Scotiabank Arena, drawing support from fans and delivering on the ice.

Despite limited playing time in the PWHL this season, Nurse was named to the Canadian Olympic team last Friday, showcasing her talent and determination in Saturday’s game.

Toronto dominated the first period, outshooting Vancouver 20-4, but faced challenges in finishing scoring opportunities. Vancouver struggled offensively, with Nurse’s return providing a much-needed boost.

Watts’ game-winning goal in overtime delighted the crowd of 17,856, ending Toronto’s four-game losing streak, which matched the franchise’s worst record.

Next, the Sceptres will face the Seattle Torrent, while the Goldeneyes will host the Sceptres in their upcoming matches.

This game marked an important milestone for both teams, with standout performances and key moments shaping the outcome on the ice.
