Ernie Clement Sets MLB Record with 30 Postseason Hits

Must read

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement made history in Game 7 of the World Series by securing three hits, setting a new MLB record with 30 hits in a single post-season. This achievement surpassed the previous record held by Randy Arozarena of the Tampa Bay Rays, who had 29 hits during the 2020 playoffs as a rookie.

During the postseason, Tampa Bay competed in 20 games across four playoff rounds in the 2020 season, while Toronto played 18 games in three playoff rounds this year. Despite their remarkable performances, both teams faced defeat against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.

Clement’s remarkable performance in Game 7 included a single in the second inning, another single with a run scored in the sixth, and a record-breaking leadoff double in the eighth that forced Dodgers’ pitcher Emmet Sheehan out of the game. Clement also set a Blue Jays postseason record with a 13-game hitting streak, surpassing Pat Borders’ 12-game streak in 1992 when he was the World Series MVP against Atlanta.

In his debut postseason, Clement achieved a batting average of .411, with 30 hits, one home run, and nine RBIs in 73 at-bats. Despite going 3-for-5 in Game 7, the Blue Jays fell short, losing 5-4 in 11 innings.

Clement almost secured the championship for Toronto in the ninth inning with a deep drive to left-center, but the ball was caught on the warning track with the bases loaded, leading the game into extra innings tied at 4-4. Reflecting on the intense game, Clement expressed his emotional state, stating, “I’ve been crying for like probably for an hour. I thought I was done with the tears.”

Drafted by Cleveland in 2017, Clement faced challenges but found success with the Blue Jays, playing a career-high 157 games in the 2025 regular season and showcasing versatility by playing in all four infield positions. In 2024, he achieved personal bests with 12 home runs and 51 RBIs for Toronto.
