Researchers in northern Nova Scotia are still investigating the cause of death of a large great white shark that washed up near Pictou. The 580-kilogram male shark was found on a beach, prompting a weekend necropsy by the Marine Animal Response Society. Dr. Laura Bourque from the Canadian Wildlife Health Co-operative in P.E.I. mentioned that no clear cause of death was immediately evident, requiring further tests.
Conservation efforts have aided in the recovery of the great white shark population after facing a significant decline in the 1970s and 1980s. Additionally, experts suggest that the impact of climate change, leading to warmer ocean temperatures, is facilitating the northward migration of certain ocean species.
