U.S. President Donald Trump has officially adjusted the national security tariffs under Sect. 232 for certain aluminum, steel, and copper imports, as confirmed by the White House. Effective June 8, tariffs on specific steel and aluminum derivative products, such as certain agricultural machinery and residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, will be reduced from 25% to 15%.
The proclamation stipulates that mobile industrial equipment like bulldozers and forklifts will now face a 15% tariff when imported from countries benefiting from trade deals. Additionally, foreign companies may qualify for a 10% tariff if their capital equipment comprises at least 85% U.S. melted or poured steel or aluminum by weight.
Two new categories, steel racks, and aluminum lithographic plates, will be subjected to 25% duties. These adjustments will take effect for goods imported or withdrawn from bonded warehouses after 12:01 a.m. ET on June 8 and will be in force until December 31, 2027, with the aim of encouraging immediate investments to strengthen the country’s industrial foundation.
