Must read

The Ottawa Charge secured a historic fifth consecutive victory by defeating the Vancouver Goldeneyes 4-2 in a thrilling match on Friday night. Anna Meixner, Ronja Savolainen, Brianne Jenner, and Rebecca Leslie all found the back of the net for the Charge, while Gwyneth Philips made 23 crucial saves in goal.

The Charge took an early lead at 10:12 of the first period when Savolainen capitalized on a rebound from Peyton Hemp’s shot. Meixner extended Ottawa’s lead to 2-0 in the third period with a goal past Vancouver’s Kristen Campbell.

Vancouver fought back as Sophie Jaques and Michelle Karvinen scored to bring the Goldeneyes within one goal. However, Jenner’s empty-net goal at 18:35 sealed the victory for Ottawa, with Leslie adding another empty-netter in the closing seconds.

The Goldeneyes struggled on the road, with only one win in five games this season. Next up, the Charge will face the Boston Fleet in Halifax, while the Goldeneyes will take on the Victoire in Montreal on Sunday.
