Canada’s Alphonso Davies, the captain, was forced to leave the field during Bayern Munich’s victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga due to a hamstring injury. The incident, which occurred early in the second half, raised concerns about the severity of the injury as it comes just before the World Cup, which Canada will be co-hosting in less than four months.
Following the match, it was confirmed by the club that Davies had suffered a muscle tear in his right hamstring, resulting in him being sidelined until further notice. Despite walking off the field unassisted, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany initially expressed some optimism regarding the injury.
Kompany stated after the 3-2 win that the injury didn’t appear too serious, estimating a recovery period of possibly two to four weeks. Davies, who had recently returned to play after a previous ACL injury that kept him out for nine months, has played in only eight Bundesliga matches this season due to the knee injury sustained while representing Canada.
The World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico, is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19.
