“Tiny Home Charity Helps Young Woman Achieve Independence”

Must read

A charity based in St. Marys, Ontario, has provided a young woman with the opportunity for independence and stability by constructing a tiny home as part of their initiative to address homelessness. Paige Noel, aged 20, expressed gratitude for this new living arrangement, which, despite its small size of 490 square feet, represents a significant milestone in her journey towards self-sufficiency while remaining close to her family. The tiny home was installed in her mother’s yard due to space constraints in the family’s primary residence.

Home Suite Home, a non-profit organization in Perth County, initiated the project in May after being contacted by Noel’s mother seeking assistance for her employed daughter who was struggling to afford rent. Vickie Devocht, the executive director of Home Suite Home, emphasized the importance of supporting young adults like Paige who face challenges related to housing insecurity despite being employed. The one-bedroom tiny home, fully furnished with utilities included, is rented out for $500 per month, with plans for future two-bedroom homes to be priced between $800 and $1000.

With personalized decorations, Noel quickly transformed the space into a cozy and welcoming environment. Local groups, including Teahen Construction, contributed to the project by donating furniture and fixtures to support individuals experiencing homelessness in the region. Devocht highlighted the widespread issue of rising homelessness in both urban and rural areas, emphasizing the critical need for community support.

In collaboration with Project Tiny Hope in St. Thomas, Ontario, Home Suite Home seeks to establish a sustainable agri-village on leased farmland to offer more affordable housing options. Looking ahead, the charity aims to expand the tiny home initiative and provide additional housing solutions for individuals in need. Noel expressed her optimism about the positive impact of having her own place and the newfound sense of independence it brings, signaling a hopeful future ahead.
