Courtney Hoffos kicked off the World Cup ski cross season with a strong performance, securing a silver medal in the big final at Val Thorens, France. The skier from Windermere, B.C., claimed second place, while Sweden’s Sandra Naeslund, making a comeback after a season-long injury, clinched the gold and celebrated her 40th career victory on the World Cup circuit. In the women’s event, Canada’s Britt Phelan finished in sixth place after securing second position in the small final. Meanwhile, the men’s competition saw an Italian dominance with Simone Deromedis and Edoardo Zorzi taking the gold and silver medals, respectively. France’s Youri Duplessis-Kergomard secured the bronze. Kevin Drury, the top Canadian men’s ski cross athlete, unfortunately did not finish in his quarterfinal heat.
