White mentioned during a post-fight press conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 18 that he reached out to the family and is eager to provide support in any way possible. He highlighted the family’s desire to provide the best care for their daughter, mentioning options in Los Angeles, Houston, and Seattle.
White explained that they are currently in the process of finalizing the assistance, acknowledging that it is a complex endeavor that requires careful planning. Meanwhile, Maya’s mother, Cia Edmonds, shared in an April 9 Facebook post that her 12-year-old daughter is now in stable condition and has been moved out of intensive care at the B.C. Children’s Hospital. The family is planning to travel to Los Angeles, California, for specialized treatment.
Previously, White had offered to cover the costs of Maya’s treatment for the injuries she sustained in the school shooting, which included a gunshot wound to the head. Edmonds expressed gratitude for the progress Maya has made, surpassing all expectations. She emphasized the emotional relief and sense of stability that comes with having uncertainties removed.
