Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Vivienne has expressed her desire to legally change her last name by dropping “Pitt.” Following in the footsteps of her siblings, the 18-year-old filed a petition with the Los Angeles County Superior Court to amend her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. The request was signed on her 18th birthday, July 12, and submitted on Monday, citing “personal” reasons for the change. Under California law, individuals aged 18 or above have the autonomy to make this alteration without parental consent.
This move by Vivienne aligns with her previous professional credit as Vivienne Jolie in the Broadway production “The Outsiders,” overseen by her mother Angelina. Shiloh, another child of Pitt and Jolie, had already removed Pitt from her name in 2024, while earlier this year, both Zahara and Maddox initiated similar name changes. Notably, Maddox was acknowledged as Maddox Jolie in the credits for Jolie’s film “Couture,” where he served as an assistant director.
The family dynamics have been under scrutiny since the high-profile divorce of the celebrity couple in 2016, marked by a contentious legal battle with documented allegations. Jolie accused Pitt of aggressive behavior, including physical altercations, which he denied. Despite the prolonged divorce proceedings, the formal separation was eventually concluded in 2024. Pitt’s public acknowledgment of his struggles with alcohol and commitment to sobriety, starting in 2016, has been well-documented, with his reliance on Alcoholics Anonymous for support.
In contrast to Pitt’s more private life, Jolie has been visible in public appearances with their children and openly discusses her family in interviews. While efforts to seek comments from Pitt’s representatives were unsuccessful, a court hearing regarding Vivienne’s name change request is scheduled for November 2, initially planned for October 30.
