Bonnie Tyler Awakens from Coma, in Critical Condition

Must read

Singer Bonnie Tyler has awakened from a coma but remains in critical condition in intensive care, according to an update on her official website. The 75-year-old Grammy-nominated pop star, known for her distinctive voice, was hospitalized for emergency intestinal surgery last month in Faro, Portugal, where she resides. Following the procedure, she was placed in a medically induced coma.

While she is no longer in a coma, her recovery process is gradual, with doctors expressing confidence in her eventual improvement, albeit noting that it will require time. The statement released on Monday indicated that Tyler’s scheduled performances up to August have been either canceled or rescheduled, but there is optimism that the autumn shows will proceed as planned.

Renowned for her 1980s chart-topping power ballad “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” a favorite for many during solar or lunar eclipses, Tyler, a native of Wales and daughter of a coal miner, achieved earlier success with “It’s a Heartache” in 1978. The iconic hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart” was penned by Jim Steinman, best known as Meat Loaf’s producer and songwriter.
