Canada’s national orchestra is set to perform in Eskasoni First Nation, where Mi’kmaw artist Emma Stevens will join the ensemble. Stevens, known for her Mi’kmaw-language rendition of the Beatles’ “Blackbird,” will showcase her culture and music. She emphasizes the importance of preserving the Mi’kmaw language and addressing Indigenous issues. Stevens will perform her Mi’kmaw cover of “Blackbird” and an original song at the concert. Jeremy Dutcher, another Indigenous artist, will also be featured on the orchestra’s tour, highlighting the resilience of Indigenous music and language. The collaboration aims to celebrate traditional Indigenous music and stories.
