Prince Edward Island is set to host its largest television production ever this summer, with the province investing $5 million in a rebate for the adaptation of Carley Fortune’s popular romance novel, “This Summer Will Be Different,” into a 10-episode series. The filming will take place in both P.E.I. and Toronto.
During the announcement in Victoria, Robin Neinstein, the director of production management at Netflix Canada, emphasized the significance of filming on the Island, stating that P.E.I. is more than just a backdrop in the book—it is a vital character in itself. The production will require 75 positions, including production assistants, painters, and caterers.
Rob Riselli, the executive director of Film P.E.I., expressed enthusiasm about how the production will showcase the beauty of the Island and potentially attract more future productions, boosting the local economy. Premier Rob Lantz hailed the news as a great opportunity for P.E.I.’s arts and culture sector and its global exposure.
Jenn Redmond, P.E.I.’s minister of economic development, highlighted the investment in the province’s arts and culture industry through the filming of “This Summer Will Be Different.” The collaboration with Netflix is expected to elevate P.E.I.’s presence in the film industry on a global scale.
Despite initial concerns raised by the Opposition, Premier Lantz confirmed that the production is moving forward without a doubt. The exact release date for the series on Netflix remains unknown, but the anticipation for showcasing P.E.I. to millions of viewers is high.
