The discovery of a man and a child’s bodies took place on Thursday morning following an incident where a tractor plunged into a lake the previous evening in Saint-Zénon, situated two hours north of Montreal in Quebec’s Lanaudière region. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) verified this information with Radio-Canada, confirming that the retrieval occurred around 11:30 a.m. ET.
According to the provincial police service, a man in his 40s, operating the tractor, was engaged in snow removal near the lake when the tragic event unfolded. The SQ informed Radio-Canada that no criminal charges have been filed at this stage. An ongoing police inquiry aims to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, with the matter set to be handed over to the coroner’s office.
Emergency services were alerted to the situation at 6 p.m. on Wednesday by a family member who witnessed the tractor submerging, leading to a search operation involving divers.
