Detective Charlie Hudson is set to make a comeback on screen. Actor John Reardon will be reprising his role in the popular series, “Hudson & Rex,” for its upcoming ninth season, as announced by Citytv. Reardon, a native of Halifax, was the original lead in the cop-dog show but was temporarily replaced by Luke Roberts in the eighth season.
In a social media post last year, Reardon revealed that his departure was due to a battle with tonsil cancer during Season 7, for which he underwent treatment. Despite being cleared by doctors to return, the production team opted for a different direction. This decision sparked a strong backlash from fans worldwide, who campaigned for Reardon’s reinstatement through various channels, including social media and newspaper ads.
Expressing his excitement, Reardon stated his eagerness to return to his role as Charlie. He acknowledged the global fan base and expressed gratitude for their unwavering support. The production company, Shaftesbury, also welcomed Reardon back with enthusiasm, emphasizing the anticipation of a new season filled with exciting adventures with Rex and fans.
Production for the upcoming season is slated to commence in June in St. John’s, N.L., with the storyline hinting at Charlie’s surprising return and a final mission to conclude his Belize ordeal. While Roberts will continue as Det. Mark Hudson on the show, the focus remains on Reardon’s highly anticipated comeback as Detective Charlie Hudson.
