Upon viewing a video of a large creature resembling a lion entering an Irish forest on the southwest coast, John OâReilly experienced conflicting thoughts. He initially dismissed the idea of a lion in an Irish woodland but acknowledged the striking resemblance.
Subsequently, it was revealed that the animal in question was not a lion but a brown Newfoundland dog styled to mimic a lion.
‘Unbelievable Encounter’
OâReilly narrated how the situation unfolded, starting with his forest management team in County Clare, Ireland, noticing a large unidentified animal in the area. The creature was eventually captured on camera by one of their truck drivers.
The viral video footage depicted a brown animal with distinct lion-like features dashing into the forest.
Despite the absence of lions in Irish forests, OâReilly was compelled to investigate further, suspecting the animal could be an exotic pet.

Convinced of the unusual sighting, OâReilly reported the incident to the local police, who later confirmed the animal’s true identity.
The dog, known as Mouse, received widespread attention following the incident, with police humorously mentioning its newfound fame.
Instances of dogs impersonating other animals are not unheard of, with past incidents involving a Labradoodle mistaken for a lion and chow chows painted to resemble baby pandas.
While Mouse’s owners remain anonymous, OâReilly pondered the motive behind the lion-like haircut, speculating it could have been for Halloween festivities.
Siobhan McHaffie, from the Ulster Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, cautioned against shaving Newfoundland dogs’ coats due to potential health risks.
Reflecting on the peculiar event, OâReilly mused about the unexpected reactions Mouse might evoke, especially during Halloween.
